EARLY TIMES REPORT

POONCH, Apr 20: A poor elderly woman of Poonch district has been craving for a PHE water supply connection at her house but her desire is constantly getting overlooked by the concerned department.
With no tapped water connection at her disposal, the aged woman had to travel around half a kilometre daily to fetch water to meet out her daily needs.
The aggrieved woman, Rashida Bi, who lives near Nagali Sahib in district Poonch has been facing huge difficulty due to non-availability of water connection at her house but the department has turned deaf ears toward her plight.
While talking to Early Times, Rashida Bi said that, she had approached PHE Department for water supply connection few months ago but department has not provided the connection till date. “In absence of connection, I had to cover around half kms of distance to bring water to meet out our daily needs. Although I live in the Poonch city yet the basic amenities are far from our reach, which shows that the claims of Government of helping poor through various schemes are false,” she alleged.
She further said that not only PHE water connection, even she had not been given any benefit of various government schemes. “I have been living with my two sons and one of them is mentally challenged and other works as an auto driver but due to lockdown, it has become difficult for us due to non-availability of rations and other utility material. Nobody has come to us to give ration. Although Center government has launched scheme of ‘Jal Hi Jeevan’ for poor people but there is no benefit to the poor people like me,” she said.
She further alleged that PHE officials visited her residence but except taking picture of her house has not done further. “Sometimes I think that the corrupt officials might have withdrawn money from various schemes in my name,” she said.
Tehsildar Poonch Naresh said that as far as the matter of ration is concerned, she can contact on the numbers issued by the administration but the issue of PHE water supply connection will be solved only after the lockdown is over.
