Farmers’ woes need urgent redressal: Sainik Samaj Party
4/21/2020 8:30:33 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 21: Col. SS Pathania (retd) J&K President, J&K Sainik Samaj Party today said that farmers’ woes need urgent redressal, which are arising due to the lockdown affect.
Farmer have already suffered heavily due to excessive rains, destroying their wheat crops alongwith no marketing access for floriculture products mainly marigold flowers. Wheat has to be harvested and neither the labor nor combined harvesters are available due to the lockdown restrictions.
Few combined harvesters available with the state have no driver’s, hence can’t be used and drivers who used to come from Punjab are not readily available. Small farmers have small chunk of lands are dependent on tractor based machines for winnowing and most of them are not functional due to non availability of spare parts. Carriage of wheat grain to mandis is also adversely affected and farmers are also not getting right price for their products which also include mustard in addition to wheat.
Though government has constituted suitable measures to mitigate visualized problems, translation of these measures on ground is not visible. Sowing of paddy and other kharif crops will also start in next month are so, acute shortage of labour if not provisioned, farmers will certainly will be subjected to a ‘double whammy’. Pathania also stated that at districts level teams of agriculture departments must visit the farmers, interact with farmers and institute prompt remedial measures. A real time monitoring mechanism should be put in place under DC to remove the impediments as and when encountered. Subsidized manure, seeds, spare parts for tractors and machines, and agricultural implements should be made available to farmers on urgent basis.
