Prof Amitabh Mattoo comes to rescue of sacked paramedics in Jammu, Govt assures action

jammu, Apr 21: Globally acclaimed academic, Prof Amitabh Mattoo has come to the rescue of scores of paramedics from Jammu who have been allegedly sacked from their services amid Covid-19 pandemic with the government saying that the matter would now be looked into on priority.
Prof Mattoo's intervention came in response to a tweet by senior Congress leader and Member Parliament Shashi Tharoor, who had posted a comment that some paramedics from Jammu province have complained to him that they have been sacked by the JK Government.
"Have received urgent SOS from Jammu nurses that on 12 April, the J&K Govt dismissed 181 trained professionals of the Health & Medical Education Department, Jammu, including 97 staff nurses & paramedics, in the midst of #COVID19. @DrJitendraSingh @JKGovt1," Tharoor had tweeted on the micro-blogging website.
Prof Mattoo retweeted it by tagging Government Spokesman Rohit Kansal. "I am forwarding this extraordinarily supportive & competent @kansalrohit69 IAS, off spokesperson. And @ShashiTharoor expect a response ASAP from him !," Prof Mattoo tweeted.
Kansal promptly responded saying: "Thanks @amitabhmattoo . Noted the concern. Will have the concerned look into it asap."
The government has reacted to the issue when the similar complaints have been pouring in from Kashmir as well. As per the reports, over a hundred paramedics have been sacked from the services there as well.
Experts have been saying that it was not the right time to sack anyone from the medical services even if the job had been given on contractual basis as their services were needed.
Over the days while the government was silent on the issue, Prof Mattoo's tweet has got a formal response.
It is pertinent to mention that Prof Mattoo is among the influential voices known across the world.
Despite repeated attempts Prof Mattoo couldn't be contacted for his comments. But his personal secretary told Early Times that Prof Mattoo was keeping keen track of developments unfolding in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of Covid-19.
