Govt following different yardsticks for rich, poor: Harsh
4/21/2020 10:55:12 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 21: Accusing the government of following two different sets of norms for the rich and poor, Harsh Dev Singh chairman JKNPP and former minister has demanded the evacuation of stranded labourers in various states by airlifting them. Referring to the statement of Dr. Jitender Singh MOS in PMO that around 200 people of Ladakh presently in Rajasthan would be evacuated by airlifting them, Mr Singh sought similar facility for J&K labourers stranded in other states. These labourers were confined in small unhygienic rooms with even 50-60 people holed up in single rooms. “They not only faced threat of corona infection but were suffering starvation due to non availability of food and other essentials. Several labourers had complained of deteriorating health conditions with no medical aid being provided to them. Facing worst nightmares in alien land, the said labourers were repeatedly requesting for their safe evacuation with none in the UT to listen to their shrill cries”, regretted Singh. Pointing towards the efforts of UP govt for evacuation of its stranded students, Singh said that the central govt should devise a suitable strategy for safe eviction of all stranded people particularly the poor and indigent masses who were resourceless and penniless struggling in hostile environs. Reminiscing the evacuation of thousands of influential people stranded in other countries, states through state aircrafts before announcing lockdown, Mr Singh appealed the union govt to come to the rescue of distressed labour class by transporting them through state planes which were not being used for flight operations during the ongoing crisis. Referring further to the eviction of the daughter of a Bihar BJP MLA from Kota, Mr Singh said that all citizens of the country had been guaranteed equal treatment and same rights under the constitution. The safety, security and grant of similar facilities to all its subjects is the cornerstone of a true democracy and should be the primordial responsibility of the govt, said Harsh.
