Anantnag, Apr 25: In a tragic incident, a pregnant lady and her twin babies died here at Maternity and Child Care Hospital in South Kashmir’s Anantnag on Saturday. The family later alleged that they were mistreated at Hospital because they had come from ‘Red Zone’ area of the district.
“We took her (Pregnant lady) to a doctor Hillar Kokernag and he advised us to shift her to Maternity and Child Care Hospital Anantnag. On reaching there we were mistreated. Even the staff members didn’t touch her and told us stay away as we had came from Red Zone area,” Shakir Ahmad, relative of deceased woman told Early Times.
He claimed that the woman died due to blood loss and wasn’t treated on time. “For hours they kept discussing whether to admit her or not and wasted precious time,” he said, adding initially doctors were hesitant to treat her, which eventually led to her and the twins’ death.

delivered first baby at 8.45 am and the second at around 12, however both the babies were dead, said officials at MCH Anantnag.
They admitted the fact that initially the authorities at MCH Anantnag took some time in deciding whether to admit her or not. “After checking her medical record and findings it was decided to admit the patient,” an insider told Early Times.
Principal Government Medical College Anantnag, Showkat Jeelani, on being contacted said that an inquiry has been ordered into the matter. “I have ordered an inquiry and within two days we will bring out the facts,” he said.
He said that preliminary investigation suggests the pregnant lady wasn’t illtreated or denied treatment.
He also said that they have directed the doctors and paramedics to isolate themselves at home till the reports of the deceased lady come.
“We have taken the samples of the deceased lady for COVID-19 test and as a precautionary measure we have directed doctors and paramedics to go for self-isolation till the reports of samples come,” he added.
