Early Times Report

Anantnag, Apr 25: 21, including 2 year old girl, tested positive for coronavirus in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district during last 24 hours taking the number cases in the district to thirty seven (37).
“21 persons tested positive during last 24 hours. The infected persons belong to Nowgam, Kulul Shangus, Kotheir, Khapora Larnoo and Khiram,” Additional District Magistrate Anantnag Syed Yasir confirmed to Early Times.
Preliminary findings suggest they too are close contacts of those positive patients who tested positive for coronavirus during last weeks in the district, he said.
He said that all infected persons have been under hospital quarantine at different location and their native areas have been declared red zones
With this addition, the total number of coronavirus infected persons has risen to thirty seven in the district. Officials say that the area is being declared as Coronavirus ‘hotspot’ in the district.
14 cases, the officials say, were declared on Thursday late evening while as the remaining seven cases were declared today.
They said that aggressive testing and contact tracing in the infected areas is on and more efforts are being made to decontaminate the area.
“Native areas of positive cases are already declared Red Zones in the district. 550 persons who had came in touch with positive cases have been identified and their samples are being taken ,” Dr Farhat, who is the COVID-19 nodal officer said.
According to reports, infected persons are the primary or secondary contacts of first positive case of Nowgam COVID19 positive case. “Most of the infected persons are primary or secondary contacts of Nowgam man who tested positive and is the first case in the district,” officials said.
A Khiram resident, who tested positive for coronavirus today, had earlier tested negative.
“He and his family members were put under hospital quarantine. Initially they tested negative and were allowed to go home. Now the 70 year old resident has tested positive for the coronavirus and it has sent shocking waves across the Bijbehara area of Anantnag district,” residents say, alleging the man who tested positive had violated Home quarantine rules and met dozens of people.
They said that a good number of residents met him at his residence and congratulated him for testing negative. “We greeted him and hugged him after he tested negative. The health department shouldn’t have allowed him to go home before testing for a second time,” they added.
Residents requested district administration to enforce the lockdown strictly and book all those who assemble unlawfully and violate the lockdown.
