| With 5 more recovered, no. of active cases reduced to 34 in Jammu | | | Jammu: Another person was today tested positive for Coronavirus in the Union Territory of Ladakh taking number of COVID cases during last two days to two and total to 20, 16 of whom have recovered, while five more patients were today treated and discharged from the Chest Diseases Hospital in Jammu bringing down number of active cases to 34 in the total of 57 with 22 recoveries and one death.
Of five persons treated and discharged from the Chest Diseases Hospital Bakshi Nagar, one is the father of first Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu doctor to be tested positive for COVID-19, who himself is a retired SSP, and another his servant, both hailing from Channi Himmat.
The doctor has already been treated and discharged.
Three others were Tablighi Jamaat activists, two belonging to Mumbai and third to Uttar Pradesh, who were tested positive during their stay at a religious place in Sunjwan on the outskirts of Jammu City.
CD Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Rajeshwar Sharma told the Excelsior that now 25 asymptomatic patients were admitted in the hospital. All of them are fully stable, he said.
Jammu region has total of 57 COVID-19 cases. Now, the tally of patients recovered and discharged has gone up to 22 while there was one death of a Corona patient-a woman hailing from village Tikri in Udhampur district leaving active cases to 34.
No fresh positive case was reported from the Jammu region for second consecutive day today.
Meanwhile, 149 people of Jammu and Kashmir, who had been stranded in different parts of Himachal Pradesh, were today brought back by the Government and from Lakhanpur, the gateway to Jammu and Kashmir, in Kathua district they were sent to their respective district headquarters where they will be kept under administrative quarantine for 14 days before being sent to their homes.
Union Minister of State in Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Dr Jitendra Singh announced return of residents of J&K from Himachal Pradesh through a tweet.
Later, Dr Jitendra Singh said students and some other people of J&K stranded at Kota in Rajasthan will also be brought back shortly.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, meanwhile, described as commendable the efforts of an NGO in Kathua stitching masks for the people.
“Commendable. Such efforts are important in the battle against COVID-19,” Modi tweeted.
In his tweet, Dr Jitendra Singh, who is MP from Kathua seat thanked the Prime Minister.
“Thanks PM Sh@Narendra Modi Ji for your kind encouragement. This has doubled our enthusiasm and energy to carry on the fight against Corona led by you,” Dr Singh tweeted.
During past few days, nearly 500 people of the Union Territory of Ladakh have been evacuated from different parts of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan and sent to Leh and Kargil districts where they have been kept for 14-day quarantine. The pilgrims hailing from Ladakh had earlier been evacuated from Iran and kept in different States for quarantine.
Deputy Commissioner Kathua OP Bhagat said a total of 149 people reached Lakhanpur from Shimla and other places today and were sent to their district headquarters for administrative quarantine.
The district civil and police administration had made arrangements for transportation of people to their district headquarters in the Government buses.
The district administration of Jammu has, meanwhile ordered, transition of Janipura, Gujjar Nagar, Bhatindi and Sunjwan localities from Red Zone to Orange Zone in view of the guidelines.
Deputy Commissioner Jammu Sushma Chauhan said further transition from Orange to Green will take place as per procedure in due course of time (second week of May provided that situation remains as it is today).
“The order/notification of withdrawal will be issued when the transition from Red Zone to Green Zone is complete. In the meanwhile, the concerned officers, both police and Magistrate, have been briefed about relaxation pertaining to Orange Zone,” Chauhan said.
With another patient testing positive in the Union Territory of Ladakh-second in last two days-total number of cases have climbed to 20. However, 16 of them have fully recovered and discharged from the hospitals leaving active cases to four, one in Kargil and three in Leh district.
The person who tested positive today belonged to village Gunisthang in Bogdang area of Leh and had travel history to Gujarat.
He had attended Tableeg meeting at Gujarat and returned to Chandigarh on February 2 and Thoise, Nubra (Leh) on March 9.
Commissioner/Secretary Health Ladakh Rigzin Samphel told a press conference that all 180 passengers, who had travelled with the positive patient in the plane on March 9, will be subjected to sample testing.
Nearly 500 samples will be taken from Bogdang area for testing, Samphel said.
The person from Village Sankoo in Kargil district who was reported positive yesterday had travel history of Iran and had reached New Delhi on February 26. He had further travelled to Leh from New Delhi on March 5.
Samphel said samples of all passengers who were on board the flight of Sankoo positive patient will also be tested for Corona. Sankoo is already a Containment Zone and contact tracing of the positive patient is on. Families of both the COVID patients have been shifted to quarantine centers. |
