4/26/2020 8:00:20 PM

Jammu, Apr 26 Despite commitments towards fighting COVID 19, Indian Army has ensured that terrorists remain on the run for their life and their numbers as well as leadership remains at the lowest ebb and as a part of this commitment, as many as 22 terrorists have been eliminated alone in the month of April and total 54 so far in 2020 in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Northern Command based Defence Spokesman Lt Col Abhinav Navneet here on Sunday saud, that Indian Army in two separate successful operations conducted within 24 hours on April 24 and 25, killed four terrorists at Anantnag and Pulwama Districts.
"With this, the number of terrorists killed by Army in April this year alone has gone up to 22 and the overall count in 2020 to 54," he said.
He further said that on Saturday morning, a joint team of RR and Police launched cordon and search operation in Goripora area of Awantipora in South Kashmir's Pulwama District.
As the joint team approached towards the suspected spot, hiding terrorists fired upon them, triggering an encounter.
In the ensuing gunfight two terrorists were killed. Affiliation of the slained terrorists is yet to be ascertained.
Earlier on Friday, terrorists abducted a Policemen from Sheerpora area of Yaripora, Kulgam.
A joint team of RR, SOG and CRPF immediately cordoned off the area and launched rescue operation.
Terrorists were chased at Kharpora leading to a brief gunfight in which both of them were killed while a policeman was injured in Arwani area of South Kashmir's Anantnag District.
Killed militants have been identified as Nadeem Ahmad Rather R/O Ashmuji Kulgam and Shahid Ahmad Bhat R/O Bugam Kulgam.
He said that Army has consistently dominated the Line of Control as well as hinterland, eliminating the terrorist cadres and their leadership.
This has further strengthened the security grid in Valley. Army has therefore been successful in developing positive security environment and the "Awaam" feels assured about their safety and overall peace to sustain during the summer season of 2020.
