Tele-classes for Kashmir, nothing for Jammu students
Discrimination Continues

Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 29: Education Department starting tele-classes only for the students of Kashmir on DD Kashir and ignoring the students of Jammu region is yet another glaring example of discrimination being meted out with Jammuities.
Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has started airing the special classes for the students of the Valley at 5:30 pm on DD Kashir but no such step has been taken for the students of Jammu region.
It’s in place to mention here that many colleges and schools started online classes and lectures for the students after the lockdown was announced in the country. But students in J&K have been unable to get benefitted due to online education system as the slow internet speed has proved to be a big hurdle. The highspeed internet which was suspended in J&K on Aug 5, 2019,— when Centre reorganized J&K— continues to remain shut till date.
An observer while talking to Early Times said, “Authorities seem to have forgotten that students in Jammu region too are struggling and classes aired on TV would have helped them. It’s unfortunate that government is using different yardsticks for Jammu and Kashmir regions.”
“Authorities should have started special classes for students of Jammu region also. This selective approach has disappointed the people of Jammu region,” the observer added.
A parent said, “Are the Jammu students children of lesser God? Don’t they have the Right to Education like other students across the country.”
The parent said that Government should take a note of the sufferings of Jammu people and restore the highspeed internet in the region. “At least our children will be able to study. Clubbing us with Kashmir vis-à-vis providing internet services is unjustified.”
A student from Udhampur said, “Our college teachers are delivering online lectures but connectivity issues are keeping us deprived of it. Highspeed internet is prerequisite for online education.”
