Two forest officials suspended for illegal felling in Anantnag

Anantnag, May 5: Two Forest Department officials were suspended today over dereliction after pictures showing illegal felling in Hapatnar block of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district appeared on social media sites.
Range Officer Mattan of Lidder Forest Division Bijbehara Suhail Shikari told Early Times that they took cognizance of social media posts and complaints and deputed a team verifying them. “We rushed a team to the area mentioned in the complaint and during combing operation they found one Kail Green illegally cut by some unknown culprits,” he said.
Range officer said that they have suspended two employees and Block Officer of Hapthnar 14/L has been asked to explain his position and take legal action against those involved in the felling of green tree.
“One Kail green tree Dia fifty to sixty has been illegally cut by some unknown culprits, with 14/L converted to logs there,” an order, issued by the Range Officer reads. The in-question stocks existing on the spot were seized by the team and kept at a safer place on proper Supardhnama, he added.
Those who were placed under suspension include Mushtaq Ahmad Shah (watcher), Mohammed Yaqoob Khan (Gardener).
Meanwhile, Wildlife Officials along with the employees of Pahalgam Development Authority visited Aru Pahalgam and retrieved back land measuring around 50 Kanals.
Wildlife Warden South Kashmir Rauf Zargar told Early Times that the encroached land and being used by Pahalgam Development Authority for some activities, however they jointly removed the encroachments by removing bribed wire and poles.
Pertinent to mention here that Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA) has already suspended four employees for assisting encroachers at Aru Pahalgam and has initiated enquiry into the issue.
