Wreath laying ceremony of 3 CRPF martyres held in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, May 5: The wreath-laying ceremony of the 3 CRPF men, who attained martyrdom in a militant attack in Wangma-Qaziabad of Handwara area, was held in STC of CRPF Humhama in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Tuesday.
The event was held at Special Training Camp (STC) in Humhama area of Budgam, in which the former CRPF DG presently an advisor to the Lt Governor of Jammu-Kashmir Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar, and other top CRPF and police officers were present during the wreath-laying event.
Top Police, CRPF and Army officials participated in the ceremony and paid floral tributes to the deceased men before their coffins were dispatched to their respective places.
Meanwhile sources said that in the past 96 hours, 8 security personnel including 4 from Indian Army, 1 from JKP and 3 from CRPF were martyred in the anti-militancy operations in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
On May 4/2020 (Monday) late evening, at around 5:30 pm, three paramilitary troopers were killed in a militant attack, said an official.
However the official had identified the slain CRPF men as Santosh Kumar Mishra, Ashwani Kumar, and C Chandrasekar. However police said that on Monday militants fired indiscriminately upon a join party of police and CRPF deployed at Wangam crossing in Kralgund area of Handwara to enforce strict lock down in view of Covid-19. The fire was retaliated; three Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) men of 92 Bn sustained grievous gunshot injuries who later on succumbed to their injuries, the official said. During the cross firing, one civilian got killed, taking advantage of dense foliage of nearby orchards the militants managed to escape from the spot, Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the area was launched to nab the militants.
However, sources said that a civilian got also killed in cross firing that was identified as 14 year old Omar Shafi Bhat @ Hazim s/o, Mohammad Shafi Bhat r/o Khaipora village, and the deceased 14 year old boy was buried in Sheeri Baramulla.
Soon after this terror attack, internet was temporarily suspended in Handwara area, and intense search operation was carried in the area to nab the militants.
It is pertinent to mention here that on April 18, three CRPF troopers of 179 Bn got martyred in a militant attack near Ahad Bab’s crossing in Sopore town.
Militants had opened fire on a joint naka party of CRPF 179 bn and Police at Noorbagh near Ahad Bab’s crossing today, and in the incident, three CRPF men attained martyrdom.
