Put in sincere efforts to restore confidence of people: Munish tells admin
Residents of Sec-2, Trikuta Nagar Extension crave for improved civic amenities

Early Times Report

JAMMU, May 19: Editor-in-chief, Early Times, Munish Gupta has castigated the administration for resorting to only lip service and doing nothing substantial to improve the infrastructure of civic amenities in different parts of Jammu city.
“It is unfortunate that many areas in Jammu city are without basic facilities and people have to run from pillar to post to get even their small issues addressed. It is urged to the administrative hierarchy that put in sincere efforts to restore confidence of the people. Don’t just resort to mere lip service and leave the people to suffer,” said Munish, who would be contesting the forthcoming Assembly elections as an independent candidate from Gandhi Nagar constituency.
“The condition of Sector-2 in Trikuta Nagar Extension is yet another example of official neglect. The situation of public services is no better here than that of other localities in Jammu city. It presents a real dismal picture as the entire area is craving for better essential services,” said Munish.“It is a pity that the administration tends to forget the people while its official machinery remains inaccessible most of the times due to which the problems faced by the public hardly get resolved. This is what exactly happening with the residents of Sector-2 in Trikuta Nagar Extension. People there have been left in the lurch by the concerned authorities. The different agencies supposed to provide basic civic amenities have miserably failed in their duty.”
Meanwhile, several locals residing in Sector-2 of Trikuta Nagar Extension while speaking to Early Times said that most of the area has been reeling under lack of basic civic amenities. Residents said, “Choked drains, uncarpeted as well as unclean lanes and by-lanes remain the main and foremost problems for the inhabitants.”
“We are living in distress as the pathetic condition of lanes and drains, unhygienic surroundings and non-functional street lights have become part and parcel of our lives. The inner roads leading to the lanes and by-lanes of the area are in a bad shape which needed to be repaired at an earliest while attention must be paid towards cleanliness of the locality which is also in deplorable condition,” the residents further said. “We as residents of the area only want better and smoother roads while sanitation is also a major issue to be looked into, however, repeated requests to the authorities concerned had not yielded fruits so far,” the locals added.
Fe others highlighted the problem of clogged drains and overall insanitary conditions prevailing in the locality while they also informed about the difficulties being faced by them due to lack of street lighting arrangements which according to them are either non-functional wherever installed or not provided at all in some portions
“Drains are almost choked while the filth lays scattered onto the streets as the upkeep part is not being followed properly by the authorities concerned. Lanes are in worse condition. There is uncleanliness everywhere in the locality while the street lights which are one of the basic necessities for a locality are defunct,” lament the resident s.
Pointing towards the blocked drainage system, the residents said that the garbage gets stuck in the sewer due to accumulation of garbage which they attributed to non-desilting of the drains for the last so many years. While several others said that there is complete chaos in the locality as cleanliness of the lanes is not being done on regular basis due to lack of sanitation trash gets scattered all over the lanes which eventually leads to stench adding that they are forced to get their locality clean by spending from their own pockets. “The collection of garbage should take place on regular basis adding that irregularity on this part is the root cause of unhygienic conditions in the locality,” they said.
