Deprived of voting rights, stray animals neglected by politicians during lockdown
5/20/2020 12:16:19 AM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, May 19: The Jammu based politicians have been making their presence felt with their photographs, videos-of distributing relief material among some selected needy people-flooding the social media platforms but these very politicians have failed to think for a while about the stray animals, who have been struggling for their survival since lockdown.
From a simple behavioural analysis of Jammu based politicians it could be inferred that the stray dogs or bovine animals across the Jammu city, have not voting rights so giving them food is purely a charity without any return so the politicians have dragged back their helping hand.
Since the lockdown was announced around 50 days back, the stray dogs, cats, bovine animals have been struggling for their survival as the sources of their food such as eateries, market places have completely closed and which have started resuming their activities few days back.
The worst affected by the lockdown are the stray dogs and cats, who have been facing acute hardships to arrange their food in view of lockdown of eateries. “During the initial days of the lockdown, some of the volunteers had taken initiative to feed the stray dogs but with the extension of lockdown the resources of the volunteers got exhausted and they have also restricted their activities to few selected areas”, a volunteer said, adding that without the help of administration it was not possible to feed the stray animals and there was no administrative push or policy from the government side.
Moreover the Jammu based politicians had tried to portray themselves as kind hearted but this portrayal was more confined to media-glare as well as to their constituencies. “If these politicians are in actual sense kind hearted and have sympathy for the helpless then they could have easily think about the stray animals, who are most vulnerable and facing existential crisis due to lockdown”, a local said, adding that but none of the politician has thought about the animals as they were not the voters and the politicians would not get any return by helping them.
“It has been more than 50 days since the lockdown was announced but none of the politician could be seen clicking the photographs while feeding the stray animals and uploading the same on their social media profiles”, a Jammu based volunteer said, adding that these politicians have only one thing in mind, the reward for help and in case of needy people, the reward is their votes but in case of stray animals, there is no reward so no need of helping them.
The real character of these politicians could be easily exposed by their dual yardstick while helping the expected voters and non-voters.
