IGP terms killing of IED expert in Kulgam encounter big success, says 1 expert left in Kashmir

Early Times Report

Srinagar, July 17: Terming the killing of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) IED expert and Pakistani national Waleed Bhai in Kulgam encounter as a big success for security forces, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir range, Vijay Kumar on Friday said there are only 10 ultras left in the most wanted top 12-militant list issued by police earlier this month. Besides, Waleed, two more JeM militants were killed while three soldiers were injured in the encounter which ensued after security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) at Nagnad in Kulgam in the early hours on Friday.
However, he said the Improvised Explosive Device threat along Srinagar-Jammu national highway and south Kashmir will continues till the time another Pakistani national Adnan alias Lambu bhai, who is also an IED expert, is not neutralized. “I had shared the list of top 12 most wanted militants in J&K earlier this month. Out of these, two militants -- Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Usman and JeM commander Waleed bahi -- have been killed so far. Usman was killed in an encounter with security forces in Sopore and Waleed bhai was killed in today’s Kulgam encounter,” the IGP Kashmir told reporters during a press conference here on Friday. Giving details about Kulgam encounter, he said police on Thursday received information about presence of three militants in a village in Kulgam. “A joint CASO was launched by police, CRPF and Army in the area during which an encounter ensued. In the gunfight three Army soldiers were injured while as many militants were killed,” he said.
He said one of the three militants has been identified as Waleed Bhai, who is a Pakistani national and an IED expert. “The slain militant was active in the valley from last over one-and-a-half year. He had previously been able to escape four times from our cordon. He left behind a Pika gun the last time he managed to escape from our cordon,” the IGP said. He said the killing of Waleed bhai is a big success for security forces. “The remaining 10 militants from the top wanted militants will be neutralized very soon. Among the top 10, the most wanted is Sajab alias Hyder, who has openly threatened the family of police and BJP activists,” he said.
The IGP said militants are causing unrest in the valley because they are being instigated by Pakistan to create violence in Kashmir.
“After the killing of Abdul Rehman alias Foji Bhai, a resident of Mutan in Pakistan (on June 3 in Pulwama encounter), there were only two IED experts in the valley -- Waleed Bhai and Adnan alias Lambu bhai. Now we have killed Waleed Bhai only Lambu bhai is left,” he said.
“Due to the killing of Waleed bhai, there will be some relief for security agencies in the national highway and south Kashmir. But till the time Lambu bhai is neutralized, the IED threat will continue,” he added.
