EARLY TIMES REPORT

NOWSHERA, July 17: It has been more than seven years, the Seri Gate to Kalal Village road, which is connected to border area in Nowshera Sub Division of Rajouri district is in total dilapidated condition, but the concerned department the Border Road Organization (BRO) has showed least concern toward this particular road and continues to ignore its blacktopping.
The road connects to Kalal village, which is around 9 kms long stretch and situated at extreme border and keeps significance on strategic aspects to counter shelling from Pakistan side but the deplorable condition of the road has made it difficult for the people to commute on this road.
“There is 10-15 thousand of population in this village, which is dependent on this road but with the passage of time, the road has turned into potholes making it difficult for the vehicular movement but the BRO never took care of the road, even no repair was done,” the locals said.
They further said that the road is under GREF 58 RCC, but continuous ignorance by the department has been making things more difficult. “Even the concerned Sarpanch also approached the BRO and requested to carry out blacktopping due to bad condition of road but despite assurance nothing was done,” they said further adding huge shelling takes place in Kalal village and in case of any casualty and emergency, it becomes difficult to take injured to hospital swiftly and moreover the ambulance carrying pregnant women for delivery cases to hospital had to face tough time.
“Just half a kilometre ahead from Seri Gate there falls a nallah, which comes into flash flood when it rains and the entire traffic movement gets stopped. There had been continuous demand of a bridge of 30 meter span on this nallah but till date nothing has been done,” they said. Shifting injured due to Pak shelling during the rainy season becomes almost difficult to cross this nallah, which becomes a death trap. Few years ago an army personnel was washed away in a flash flood in nallah, when he was trying to cross it, and many army vehicles were also washed away while crossing over the nallah. Not only this road, there are many other projects which are still pending and BRO has been showing inactiveness to carry out them.
Concerned Sarpanch told Early Times that there was a plan to carry out blacktopping before March, 2020 but it has been seven months but work didn’t start.
When contacted the OIC, BRO Nowshera said “We don’t talk to media person as we are not allowed to give any information.,” Later he said that the blacktopping of road is in their plan but there are still few projects which are underway and this project will be taken up after them.
