DDC Samba reviews implementation of Road Safety Plan at DRSC meeting

SAMBA, July 17: District Development Commissioner, Rohit Khajuria, today reviewed the implementation of Road Safety plan here at a meeting of District Road Safety Committee (DRSC).
The DDC took detailed appraisal of Action Taken Report at the meeting attended by SSP Traffic M.L Kaith, Assistant Road Transport Officer, Rehana Tabassum, Chief Medical Officer, Rajinder Samyal, Ish Gupta DM (Tech.) representatives of NHAI, besides Executive Engineer, R&B, Flood Control dept. and other officials.
Discussion was held on various agenda points including strategies & reduction of road fatalities, audit of road segments prone to accidents, Black Spots and rectification, cash investigations, enforcement of traffic laws, strengthening of Highway patrolling, streets lights on NHs, SHs and MDRs, procurement of equipment to detect traffic violations, installation of crash barriers, maintenance of bridges, checking of overloading and over-speeding of school buses, status and mapping of ambulances on NHs and training of staffs.
The meeting also discussed the utilization of various equipments procured under road safety funds for conducting regular checking by the enforcement agencies to curb traffic violations. Further, identification of stops for Buses/Mini Buses/ Rikshaws in the Samba city was discussed.
The meeting decided to promote civil society participation in road safety initiatives and organize health cum awareness camps for drivers and conductors and other stakeholders.
The DDC laid stress on identifying accident prone and black spots, installation of height and width barriers to restrict entry of heavy vehicles in the city besides initiating other remedial measures like installation of signage and generating awareness amongst people for making the roads safe for the commuters in the district.
The SSP traffic was asked to share list of locations with XEN, PWD where structural modifications are required in the existing rotaries and junctions, make necessary improvements for smooth regulation of the traffic.
Directions were also issued to traffic and motor vehicles department Samba for identification of parking spaces in the city to enable enforcement of complete ban on roadside parking.
The DDC also stressed for early start of e-challan system for curbing traffic violations in the city.
Chairman DRSC commended the efforts of Motor vehicle department in reducing the road fatalities to 59 against 100 during the corresponding period last year. He also exhorted upon the officers of different dept to work in close co-ordination and efficient manner so that desired results are attained.
