Early times Report

NOWSHERA, July 21: There seems to be no end to the encroachment of forest land in this forest division and the worst part of the story is that the authorities who could have stopped the same are making lame excuses. Sources informed Early Times that some of the people have constructed Kucha houses in the forest and the same is known to the officers and officials of the Department of Forest. These houses have come up despite the demarcation done with the construction falling under VP 75.
“The houses have come up in the forest area located near the office of Divisional Forest Officer, Nowshera. The locals had conveyed the department about the latest encroachment through telephone to the DFO Nowshera Suresh Manda, but the concerned officer did not bother to take action in this regard,” said sources.
Zorawar Singh, a local said that the DFO Nowshera has been informed about the encroachment of the forest land in the past as well, but he has so not taken action so far. He said that along with DFO the complaint was also sent to the Conservator of Forests, Rajouri D Dass Mohan but he too did not act.
“I was astonished when the Conservator of Forests threatened that he will register an FIR against me if continue to lodge complaints on phone. There is a nexus between the jungle smugglers and the concerned officials more so the DFO and it is due to this the green gold is being plundered like anything in this forest division,” said Zorawar.
The Conservator of Forests said that the department would act only when a written complaint is lodged adding that no action would be taken on complaints lodged through telephone. Meanwhile, locals have appealed for direct intervention of Lieutenant Governor G C Murmu in this regard. They have also appealed for registering of case by Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB).
