Early Times Report

Poonch, July 21: A widow from Mendhar Sub Division has been running from pillar to post for nine years to avail assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme to build a house.
Sakina Fatima, who hails from village Rellan Gull of Sub Division Mendhar, near LoC, has been living in a Kacha house. Her husband Israr Hussain Shah died in 2013 and now she is living with her two children.
She said that during 2011, the Rural Development Department had conducted a survey under IAY scheme, which was rechristened as PMAY scheme in 2014 wherein, their name was included among the beneficiaries due to their poor financial condition and kacha house.
“Our case was approved by the department. Unfortunately my husband died in 2013 due to cancer disease. For the past nine years no installment under PMAY scheme has been issued in our favour,” she said.
She alleged that the concerned Gram Rojgar Sevak (GRS) demanded Rs 20,000 for issuance of first installment under the scheme, which she could not pay due to her poor condition, which is main reason for funds not being transferred to them for construction of house.
Her son also alleged that GRS had demanded bribe for issuance of installment.
She urged LG to intervene. “We knocked doors of many offices but nobody helped us,” she added.
The local Panch Sajid Ali said that she is very poor and is struggling to make her ends meet and she deserves the assistance under PMAY scheme.
He further added that this is not the only case, there are many such cases wherein payment has not been made by the department.
When contacted the Tehsildar Mendhar Dr Vikram, said that he would get the matter inquired from BDO Mendhar and justice will be done.
