Under detention, Mehbooba Mufti ‘stocks ammunition’ to address media on release
7/22/2020 12:41:15 AM
Early Times Report

Jammu, July 21: Even as the government is yet to decide on release of former Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party, President, Mehbooba Mufti who is facing detention at home under the Public Safety Act, she has decided to call a press conference the moment she is released.
A formal announcement in this regard has been made by Mehbooba’a official Twitter handle which is currently operated by her family.
“As next month marks a year since Article 370 was abrogated, Ive received multiple requests from journalists for an interview with Ms Mufti. Request them to wait. She’ll address the press immediately once her PSA & illegal detention is quashed,” she said on the Twitter.
Sources said the PDP leader has decided to address the media only to challenge the abrogation of the special status and that the party would call a press conference on such event.
Sources said the PDP got such a statement released after detailed deliberations of the party leadership.
Sources said the PDP looks ahead to break the silence as presently maintained by other parties especially the National Conference.
It is pertinent to mention that after their release from the prison, the National Conference leaders and former Chief Ministers Dr Farooq Abdullah, and subsequently his son Omar Abdullah also told the media that they would remain silent on political issues.
While Dr Farooq has since been busy inaugurating shops or expressing condolences, son Omar spend most of the time in Delhi.
But both have been silent on the issue of politics since.
Mehbooba Mufti, however, has “made up her mind” that she will be speaking on the issue. “Why would her twitter handle otherwise make such a statement. It is clear that Mehbooba is going to make a big announcement,” said a political analyst.
A senior official, however, termed it a publicity stunt. “When no decision has been made on her release yet what is the fun of making such a tweet? This is sheer publicity stunt,” the official said.
Mehbooba Mufti couldn’t be contacted for comments.
