Tehsildars Nowshera, Lamberi facilitate illegal mining, allege Panchayat representatives
9/13/2020 10:26:49 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

RAJOURI, Sept 13: Alleging facilitation of illegal mining by the Tehisldars of Sub Division Nowshera and Lamberi, several local panchayat representatives of the areas including Sarpanchs and Panchs staged a protest against the concerned officials.
Protesting panchayat members alleged that a number of stone crushers have been excavating minerals day and night in violation of norms, but the concerned Tehsildars instead of taking any punitive action are helping the operators of these stone crushers.
They alleged that Tehsildars are in collusion with stone crusher owners and take commissions from them in lieu of allowing them to excavate minerals. “We got threats from goons of stone crushers for staging protests against them and warned of dire consequences. We have lodged several complaints with the concerned Tehsildars and department but no action was taken against them,” they said adding, stone crusher owners are well aware that they are doing illegal mining that is why they are threatening them.
After a lot of pressure by the locals, the concerned Tehsildar reached the spot on some occasion but the mining machines were taken out of the mining areas before his reaching, which clearly shows that the officials of the department informed them before their arrival. Even the concerned SHO Nowshera was also informed about it but he also never took the matter seriously to nab the culprits and reached the spot after a lot of delay, giving sufficient time to illegal excavators to escape the place, they alleged.
Besides, there is a Hot Mix Plant in the area, which has been constructed illegally on government land. Although several complaints were given to the department but nothing happened till date. Later the locals approached the court of law and got a stay order on the illegal plant.
The continuous digging of minerals has created a water crisis in the area. Although the department has not allocated the mining blocks till date yet these stone crushers owners are illegally doing mining and causing huge loss of revenue to the government. Even the concerned District Mineral Officer was informed about it several times, but he also didn’t take action, which raises fingers on his credibility and sincerity.
ADC Nowshera Sukhdev Singh Sambyal, when contacted in this matter, said that if he gets any written complaint against the Tehsildars, he would definitely initiate an inquiry against them. As far as the issue of Hot Mix Plant is concerned, he said that he had also gone to the spot and scrutinized the revenue documents, which shows that the land belongs to an individual but now the case is in the court of law so he can’t comment on it.
