EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 13: The Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory Administration is likely to announce the policy for renewal of old vehicles very shortly and according to it there would be no or minimum changes for renewal of private vehicles but some changes have been suggested for renewal of commercial vehicles.
Sources in the Transport Department informed Early Times that the department has almost finalized the order regarding the policy for renewal of old vehicles including commercial as well as private vehicles.
"Against the speculations among some public about the non-renewal of private vehicles (non-commercial) after the age of 15 years at par with the policy in the other Union Territories, in JK UT the private vehicles life would be extended by five years after the expiry of first 15 years", sources said, adding that after the expiry of fifteen years' time, some new clauses might be introduced in the policy but these would not be major changes as per the previous policy for the renewal of the vehicles.
Sources further said that in case of private vehicles, the policy for their renewal would be almost the same as per previous policy for the same. "But in case of commercial vehicles the department has incorporated some new changes in view of the changing scenario of the cities", sources said.
"In case of commercial vehicles, after completion of ten years of life, it would be renewed only for a period of few years and that too with a condition of not operating these vehicles in particular municipal limits areas", sources said, adding that once the commercial vehicle would be renewed after initial ten years of its life, the renewal would be done on the condition of operating the same vehicle on some particular routes and not in the limits of cities.
An official of the Transport Department pleading anonymity said that the department has almost finalized the new policy for renewal of vehicles and very shortly the same would be made public.
