| Condition of J&K Hospitals put staff, patients at risk : Kavinder Gupta | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 18: Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta said that with the incidences of COVID-19 cases spiking in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir an alarming situation has arisen. Even after lockdown the situation has not improved. There is a fear that the people here will die without any medical care, as the UT machinery is not equipped to deal with a worsening situation.
Kavinder said that without proper infrastructure, patients and doctors are equally at risk. He said that the District Hospitals are mostly run in temporary and shabby structures with no supply of safety gears, shortage of ventilators and patients feel that they are the most vulnerable to the virus.
Kavinder said that the shortage of doctors as well as ventilators, coupled with poor health infrastructure is triggering apprehensions regarding concern of the administration to deal with the deadly virus.
With Coronavirus positive cases increasing with each passing day, it is clear that the Jammu and Kashmir hospitals are inadequate to deal with the crisis, he added.
He said that on ground there is acute shortage of doctors as well as ventilators. He added In future if the situation turns worse then it will be a difficult task for the administration to deal with the threat of the deadly virus.
“There are total 48 ventilators in ICU and high dependency ward of Government Medical College and Hospital,” he added.
Apart from the shortage of ventilators and doctors, the government is presently facing problems in absence of proper infrastructure.
“The J&K administration has been searching buildings to develop Quarantine Centers in the worst cases,” he said and advised the administrative officials to utilize government school buildings, hotel buildings, guest houses, resorts and marriage halls for Covid-19 patients.
