Udhampur: CT Scan non-functional for 8 months

ASHWANI SHARMA

EARLY TIMES REPORT

UDHAMPUR, Sept 18: Owing to some technical snag the CT Scan Machine in District Hospital Udhampur is non-functional for about last eight months leaving the patients to move to Jammu for the diagnosis as the private ones in the district are shut due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Girdhari (name changed) suffered head injury after a road mishap and he was shifted to Jammu to get his CT Scan for getting information about extent of internal injury but he succumbed enroute.
There are so many other similar cases but those who visit Jammu have to shed off hefty amount money to get the CT Scan done from private clinics as at government hospitals there remains a long waiting list.
Rahul Jandial Advocate, a social activist said how come the private CT Scan machines run continuously without developing a technical snag and how are they maintained properly while in government institutions none cares as the property belongs to the government.
COVID -19 patients Ward has also been made in District Hospital Udhampur and in this condition CT SCAN Machine should be available for those COVID patients who are suffering from chest problems. How the administration can behave in such an irresponsible manner on this issue?, he added
He demanded that the machine at DH Udhampur should be repaired soon so that the patients may get some relief.
When contacted the concerned officer of Medical Equipments of District Hospital Udhampur said there is an administrative issue but I can’t disclose while he refused to divulge further details.
The Medical Superintendent at DH Udhampur Dr Vijay Raina informed that they were in touch with the dealing company but still no headway has been reached as of now.
However sources informed that the authorities changed the company responsible for maintenance and the new company which took over is not taking interest in the repair work.
Sources claimed that the authorities concerned have not released the payment to the former company, adding that the payment is pending for the last two years due to which the machine is not being repaired.
They maintained that same is the case in some other District Hospitals of Jammu division.
However, the higher authorities preferred to remain tightlipped over the issue as the Managing Director National Health Mission neither picked up the phone nor responded to the whatsapp messages over the issue.
