Jammu, Sept 18: The ongoing Block Diwas in Padder block of Kishtwar District witnessed major uproar on Friday after Panchayat Representatives exchanged heated words with the people over the alleged withdrawal of MGNREGA material payments.
According to the details available with Early Times, as soon the public Darbar commenced, the people started presenting their grievances on account of nit receiving payments for materials and accused the Panchs and Sarpanchs off withdrawing the material payments on the name of their close relatives and family members and similar allegations were leveled by the people on account of withdrawal of payments under 14th FC.
Following massive uproar, the SDM Padder and other senior officials tried to intervene, but the angry people even didn’t listen to them and demanded action against the guilty officials involved in the embezzlement of public money.
After hectic efforts- the public order was restored.
At one stage, the PRIs who were at the receiving end also tried to walk out from the meeting after they were subjected to open public humiliation by the local people who demanded an inquiry into the matter.
Speaking to Early Times, the angry people said that no one was listening to them and added that they were left with no other option other than to raise their voices against the injustice done with them by the PRIs.
They said that there is mass bungling in withdrawal of MGNREGA material payments and 14th FC payments.
The angry people accused former BDO of misusing his power while using his Digitally Electronic Signature (DSE) for withdrawal of 14th FC payments while an Administration was already in place for the Atholi Panchayat that falls vacant following election of the Sarpanch as BDC Chairperson Padder block added that the said officer also withdrew lakhs for renovation of office and official accommodation while the financial implications were in place restricting withdrawal amount for such works.
The people urged the government and Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar to get the matter inquired through a commission.
It is pertinent to mention that government has transferred the financial powers to Sarpanchs as a part of strengthening the Panchayat Raj Institution.
