EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Sept 18: Motor Parts Dealers Association (MPDA) expressed concern over the dilapidated condition of roads at Transport Nagar area of Jammu city, seeking immediate blacktopping of all the roads falling in the area.
Addressing media persons here today, Rajinder Kakkar, President of the Association criticized the callous attitude of the authorities concerned for not showing its serious concern towards the problems of shopkeepers and traders of Transport Nagar area despite taking up the matter with them multiple times.
“Plight of the shopkeepers has been ignored immensely by the authorities concerned from time to time. The protection bunds were washed by the flash floods recently at Yard No 7 and 1 in Transport Nagar which poses a serious threat to the lives of shopkeepers of the area. The roads were constructed years back and since then, no renovation has been carried out and only potholes could be seen on these roads,” Rajinder said, adding that even the people of Jammu city are also witness of road leading to the Office of the Regional Transport Officer (RTO), Jammu, which is in dilapidated condition with hundreds of big potholes,” MPDA President said. “Besides, potholes, damaged crates, the drainage system at Transport Nagar Narwal remains always choked and witnesses flood like water logging even after a little down pour. The Concerned authorities had never paid attention towards the suffering of shopkeepers,” Kakkar said.
The damaged protection bund by flashfloods poses threat to more than 50 shops alongside Nallah; the shopkeepers demanded immediate construction of crates (protection bund). This area comes under the jurisdiction of JDA and concerned authorities have also taken stock of the damages several times but nothing was done so far, Kakkar asserted. “JDA authorities always cite the excuse of ‘lack of funds’ and added sufferings to the shopkeepers,” Kakkar said and asked the JDA and JMC authorities to remove the encroachment on roads for smooth traffic, carry out sanitation process in drains.
The Association members appealed to Lt Governor of J&K, Manoj Sinha to intervene into the limner and pat an end to their sufferings as the authorities concerned has been (siting to resolve their issues which have been pending since long. Therefore, they demanded Rs 50 crore for the overall developments of Transport Nagar Narwal, Jammu and further requested the Lt Governor to intimate the general public through the media for transparency.
