Omar, Mehbooba, others siding with whom?
Kashmir centric leaders skip Republic Day function

Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 27: Former chief ministers of erstwhile J&K state and politicians staying away from the Republic Day celebrations has put a question mark on their credentials. People are asking whom are they siding with?
Sources told Early Times that invitations were extended to Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti and other politicians to attend the main Republic Day function in Jammu but most of the Kashmir centric leaders didn’t turn up to attend the ceremony.
An analyst while talking to this newspaper said, “Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti who remain vocal on social media and twitter had no courtesy to extend the R-Day greetings to the nation. They just kept quiet. It seems they still want to appease the separatists and the people sitting in the neighbouring country.” He said, “It seems that Mehbooba and Omar are ready to don the mantle of separatists. If it’s so they should give up their security and other perks which the Centre is providing them. By skipping the Republic Day function, they have sent a wrong message.”
He said, “Such actions of the mainstream politicians in Kashmir provide an opportunity to leaders in the neighbouring country to indulge in false propaganda.”
An observer said, “Kashmir centric leaders staying away from the Republic Day parade didn’t make a big difference as the young people in Kashmir hoisted national flag at different places. A few corporators hoisted the tricolour at Gupkar Road also, where Mehbooba and Omar stay.”
He said, “After J&K’s transition into a union territory many things have changed and people like Abdullahs and Muftis don’t matter. The new faces that have come to fore are holding tricolour close to their heart and are out to challenge the hegemony of the leaders like Omar and Mehbooba, who held J&K hostage for the past so many years.”
Another analyst said, “Times are changing fast. If Kashmir centric leaders don’t mend their ways they will end up losing their addresses and will get confined to history books.”
