COVID-19 safety norms are for public not for BJP leaders
Opens working office without maintaining social distancing, wearing masks

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Apr 25: Amid spread of deadly second wave of Corona virus and repeated appeals of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to strictly follow safety norms, the local units of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) seems totally unbothered about guidelines and to follow safety protocols, which was evident from a function organized by party to open its working office.
According to the press release circulated among the media houses, the BJP had opened a working office of the party at Mandal Phallian, which was according to them the long pending demand of the people of Mandal. Though the press release claimed that the proposal was cleared in the annual working committee meeting of the BJP held at Akhnoor. The function was attended by several party members as well as President of High Court Bar Association Jammu.
According to the photographs circulated the office bearers including District President of BJP rural, elected people of working committee including General secretaries, DDC member, BDC chairman could be seen standing for a group photograph.
In the photograph, the BJP leaders could be seen standing shoulder to shoulder, without following the social distancing norms, while masks were also missing from the faces of most of the members except a few. Two photographs have been sent to the media and in one photograph the members could be found wearing the masks but not following social distancing norms. "From the two photographs it could be inferred that the safety protocols were not followed but during clicking of the photographs, the members would have to wear the face masks for a few seconds that too only for photo-session but in actuality the safety protocols were totally flouted", a politician said.
“If the function was organized on Sunday, then it is most intriguing to notice that on one hand Lieutenant Governor administration has implemented lockdown to curb the spread of infections but BJP leaders are holding public meetings that too without following the safety protocols”, a leader said, adding that the general public has been fined by the administration for not wearing face masks but no such restriction was being followed by the BJP leaders, which was most unfortunate.
These activities of the BJP leaders are also against the efforts of PM Narendra Modi. “PM has been taking various steps to contain the COVID-19 infections but these party leaders have been defeating the very purpose of PM initiatives”, a politician said, adding that some BJP leaders were also of the habit of criticizing the public for not following safety norms and held them responsible for spread of COVID, but when it comes to their turn, they were also depicting most irresponsible behaviour.
