4/25/2021 10:50:41 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

Jammu, Apr 25: Even as authorities claimed to have taken effective steps to contain COVID spread, the biggest task before the authorities is to control the mortality rate in Jammu.
During the last four days, Jammu region has been witnessing a spike in mortality. On Sunday, highest-ever 21 deaths, due to Coronavirus, were reported in the UT in which 11 were reported from Jammu only.
Furthermore, Jammu province alone contributes over 40 percent of the total positive cases in J&K. After Srinagar district, Jammu is number two as far as positive cases are concerned. Out of total 16055 positive cases, 4838 cases are in Jammu district which 431 patients have lost their lives so far.
On Sunday, Jammu district recorded 449 positive cases and only 120 patients were recovered during the last 24 hours. On Saturday total deaths in Jammu district were 421 but during the last 24 hours 10 patients have lost their lives due to a deadly virus. Sources said that higher-ups in the Health Department were focusing on Jammu district as experts have already suggested some measures to control mortalities in J&K, especially in Jammu and Srinagar districts. Sources said that like other parts of the UT, authorities are going to start Corona antigen random testing in Srinagar and Jammu districts to check the spread of the virus.
While reviewing the preparedness of J&K in combating the global pandemic, the experts had suggested that the home isolation facility and providing pulse oximeters would be a game-changer in controlling the mortalities.
Meanwhile according to an official bulletin issued this evening, there are 1247 COVID dedicated beds, 1034 Isolation beds with 615 vacant beds and 213 ICU beds where 118 beds are vacant in the Jammu division while there are 1708 COVID dedicated beds, 1597 Isolation beds where 920 beds are vacant and 111 ICU beds where 82are vacant beds in Kashmir division. There are a total of 2955 COVID dedicated beds, 2631 Isolation beds with 1535 beds vacant and 324 ICU beds with 200 vacant beds in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
