Covid Care Centres turn useless due to power cuts
Patients under home isolation bear maximum brunt

Early Times Report

Jammu, June 11: On the directions of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Panchayat level Covid Care Centres (CCCs) have been set-up in most of the Panchayat but due to the non-availability of powers these centres are of no use.
Similarly, the historic power curtailment in Jammu province has added woes of Corona-positive patients who are getting treatment at home.

Reports said that due to unprecedented power cuts, especially during the last week, most of the Panchayat level CCCs have become non-functional. Sitting in these centres without power in these centres is not possible.

On the condition of anonymity, a Panchayat member of R S Pura said that during the last one week, there is unprecedented power cuts, that too amid scorching heat. “Although the number of positive cases has come down during the last some days, it is a matter of concern that there is no power in the areas where CCCs have been set up”, the Panchayat member said.

As reported earlier, on May 23 when virus was on its peak during second wave, Lieutenant Governor had urged the elected PRI representatives, teachers, ASHAs, Anganwadi, ANM workers, and voluntary organizations to play an active role in the effective implementation of Covid preventive measures in rural areas.

In view of the spread of Coronavirus in rural areas of Jammu & Kashmir, the administration has initiated the setting up of 5-bedded Covid Centre including one Oxygen-supported bed in every panchayat to provide immediate medical attention to the people, observed the Lt Governor.

“I urge all DDC & BDC Chairpersons, members; Sarpanchs and Panchs, to extend their support and participation in the establishment and operation of the grass-root level Covid Care facilities in Panchayats, besides spreading awareness among the rural communities”, the Lt Governor said.
