Krishi Vigyan Kendra Reasi organises Vocational Training under ARYA Project

JAMMU, Dec 28: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the aegis of Directorate of Extension, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu began five days long vocational training programme on "Value addition in fruits and vegetables for SHGs" here today at KVK, Reasi campus which was attended by the number of young women farmers of the area. The programme was organised under Attracting and Retaining Youths in Agriculture (ARYA) project. The programme was organised under the dynamic stewardship of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Prof.JP Sharma and able guidance of Director Extension, Dr.SK Gupta of SKUAST-Jammu. Dr. Banarsi Lal, Scientist &Head of KVK, Reasi started the programme with the warm welcome of the participants. He briefed the objectives of the ARYA project and highlighted the need of youths in agriculture. He narrated that ARYA project is an opportunity for the youths to showcase their creativity through agri-entrepreneurship. He gave a detail view on the significance of value addition in fruits and vegetables to enhance the income and employment of rural women of hilly areas. He encouraged the participants for the value addition of seasonal fruits by which they can generate more money. He suggested that by Self Help Groups (SHGs) formation women can jointly work for the entrepreneurship in the processed products of fruits and vegetables. He motivated the women farmers by exemplifying the successful agro-entrepreneurs in the area and encouraged them to start more and more processing units. He that fruits and vegetables are rich source of proteins, minerals and vitamins and by their value addition techniques farmers can generate more income and employment. Dr.Suja Nabi Qureshi, Scientist elaborated the scientific techniques of processing of fruits and vegetables. He guided the participants in the preparation of candy, pickles, juice etc. by elaborating their scientific preparation. He also elaborated about the ingredients used in the value added products of fruits and suggested certain scientific techniques in the value addition of fruits. He said that value addition of fruits and vegetables have immense scope in hilly areas as the women farmers generate extra income for their livelihood. Sh.Manohar Lal assisted the programme. In this programme, women farmers asked certain quarries which KVK scientists answered in a satisfactorily way. During the programme the participants visited various units of KVK, Reasi and appreciated the efforts of KVK, Reasi for the demonstration of innovative technologies for the welfare of the farmers.
