Yearender 2021: First time after three-decade exodus of Kashmiri Pandits restarts from Valley | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 28: Not only the nationalist youth of Jammu will remember the year 2021 as the darkest period which deprived them of job opportunities, but the outgoing year has also refreshed the early 1989-90 situation when the mass exodus of Kashmiri Pandits was started. First-time a gap of three decades fresh exodus of helpless Kashmiri Pandits was restarted from Kashmir Valley after terrorists resorted to the selective killings of members of the minority community. The Union Minister of Home Affairs in its figures has accepted that 115 Kashmiri pandit families have left the valley for the Jammu region in October this year. Responding to a question asked by Naranbhai Rathwa in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Home Nityanad Rai shared the figure, adding that those who have left are mostly women and children. Although the Minister did not link this movement out of the valley with the recent incidents of targeted killing of minorities in Srinagar, it is a reality that such killing has badly shattered the faith of the members of the minority community living in the Valley. Continuing selective killings of civilians, terrorists on October 5 evening killed three persons including the owner of the famous Bindroo Medicate Makhan Lal Bindroo. According to police, terrorists fired upon the owner of Bindroo Medicate namely Makhan Lal Bindroo near Iqbal Park in Srinagar. With severe bullet injuries, Bindroo was shifted to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Bindroo Medicate is one of the oldest medical shops in Srinagar city. Even during the peak of terrorism, this family stayed in the Valley. Srinagar saw 16 cases of targeted killings in October and November this year. A school principal, teacher, chemist, salesman have all been targeted by terror groups leading to concerns about the safety of minorities. Notwithstanding the claims of the authorities, the silent migration of Kashmiri Pandits has re-started from Kashmir Valley after three-decade. Recently, National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah has stated that displaced Kashmiri Pandits were used as vote bank by different political parties by creating a divide among different communities. He slammed the self-styled Messiahs of Kashmiri Pandits for betraying the community and working against their interests. |
