Kashmir situation worsens as JK admin gives rosy picture
‘Record spike in attack on policemen in valley’
12/28/2021 11:12:48 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 28: Even as the Jammu and Kashmir administration is giving a rosy picture of Jammu and Kashmir, the situation on ground in the valley is “worsening” for the last few months.
Official documents reveal that after a spike in target killings of civilians, a “record” number of policemen have been killed in militant attacks. And some of the deadliest militant attacks on police force took place in the last around a month alone.
In the month of December alone, at least six policemen have been killed in militant attacks so far, whereas around one dozen militant attacks have taken place across the valley.
As per the official records, 2021 saw one of the deadliest attacks on police when militants targeted Armed Police battalion vehicle at Zewan on December 14 killing three policemen and leaving 11 others injured. The month of December also saw killing of two policemen in northern district of Bandipora on December 11. In a separate attack, ASI Muhammad Ashraf was killed in Bijbehera on December 23.
Security experts said the attack on policemen in Zewan was among the deadliest attacks in the recent past. “And what is another major concern about the attack is that it took place in a secured zone,” said a security expert.
Apart from this, two grenade attacks in south Kashmir and two attacks on security forces have taken place in the last around a week in particular.
Prior to the spike in killing of policemen, Kashmir witnessed a shocking rise in the target killing of people from minority community and the non locals.
Since October alone over one dozen civilians have been killed in Kashmir. They included ML Bindro, a prominent pharmacy owner in Srinagar. Apart from him, two non –Muslims teachers were killed in a school campus in Srinagar.
Around half-a-dozen non-locals including gole guppa seller from Bihar were also killed in the spike of killings.
Ironically on the day two non –Muslim teachers were killed in Srinagar, the J&K administration launched Jashne Dal, a three day celebrations in the famous Dal Lake.
