New Year Shocker! GST rates for textiles, clothes & footwear to be increased from 5% to 12% | New GST rates to come into effect from Jan 1, 2022 | | Jehangir Rashid
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Dec 28: The common masses are all set to shell out more money while purchasing things that are of importance to them and they cannot think of their life without these essentials of life. The basic reason for the same is the increase in the GST percentage for such essentials of life. The Government of India has come out with revised percentage of Goods & Services Tax (GST) for many things. The revised GST percentage would come into effect from January 1, 2022 and with this revision people would have to pay extra money for the articles that are very important in one’s life. According to the revised percentage the GST has been increased from five percent to 12 percent with respect to the textiles, clothes and footwear. With all these things very important for the life the masses are all set to shell out money to purchase textiles, clothes and footwear. The people have already raised their concern over the increase in GST rates for textiles, clothes and footwear. The government guidelines have made it clear that except cotton the GST in respect of other textiles have been increased from existing five percent to 12 percent. In case of clothes there is no exception and the revised rate of GST would be 12 percent. Same is the case with footwear where the GST percentage would be 12 percent from January 1, 2022. The people in general have launched a scathing attack on the revised GST rates and said that government instead of providing relief to the common masses it has added to the woes of the poor people. They said that they would have to pay more in order to purchase clothes, textiles and footwear. “It is an irony that the government claims of providing relief to the people fall flat and the same has been proved yet again. With GST rates being increased it means that there would be a big hole in the pockets of common masses as and when go out to purchase articles like clothes, textiles and footwear,” said a group of locals while sharing views with Early Times. |
