HBET gives scholarships to 600 rural girl children | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 28: A four-day scholarship carnival was launched by Harbans Bhalla Educational Trust (HBET) here today for students from rural areas. More than 80% of the students are girls from economically weak families. Tests will also be conducted from classes 1st to 3rd for selection of new students into the next academic year. Besides scholarships, the children will also get free medical and eye checkups. Counseling will be conducted for the parents and students. The students of class 7th to 10th will also participate in evaluation tests. The Managing Trustee said that the scholarships will be distributed to 600 students. Over the next several days every day about 100 students will be invited along with their parents to participate in the programme. Harbans Bhalla Educational Trust has been awarding scholarships since 1997 and the number of children helped every year has grown from 12 initially to 600 children. HBET aims to cover as many rural children as possible in and around Jammu in areas such as , Chak, Rattian, Doomi, Gajansoo, RS Pura, Birpur, Rehian, Jourian, Dansal, Kangrail, Gurah Slathia, Ghou Manhasan, Sruinsar, etc. Families of financially weak girl children from 1st to 3rd classes may apply to the Trust for scholarship. The Trust only accepts financially week students of government schools. |
