Nights to be colder, weather to remain dry in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Dec 28: The minimum temperature remained below freezing point at most of the places of Jammu and Kashmir here on Tuesday. Gulmarg and Pahalgam in the Kashmir valley were the coldest places with minimum temperature dropped to minus 9.4 degree Celsius and minus 7.9 degree Celsius respectively. The Meteorological Department (MeT) office suggests that the weather is likely to remain generally dry in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh till December 31. Srinagar recorded temperature of minus 1.4 degree Celsius against the normal -2.1 degree Celsius during this time of the season. It was 3.5 degrees below normal. Pahalgam settled at minus 7.9 degree Celsius against the minus 4.1 degree a day ago and the famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir dipped to minus 9.4 degrees Celsius against the minus 0.2 degree Celsius recorded on Monday. Gulmarg which is draped in a white blanket of snow is overflowing with tourists ahead of New Year Eve. Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway recorded temperature at minus 0.4 degree Celsius against 1.2 degree a day ago, while Kukokernag also in south Kashmir had a low temperature of minus 2.5 degree against minus 2.3 degree Celsius the previous night. The frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara recorded temperature of minus 1.0 degree Celsius against 1.5 degree Celsius a day ago, the MeT office said. Drass town of Ladakh had a temperature of minus 17.6, Leh minus 15.4 and Kargil minus 11.6 degree Celsius. |
