Bitter Experience
12/28/2021 11:10:30 PM

The ongoing rail-roko strike has put the stranded passengers in Jammu in all sorts of trouble. The private bus operators are selling the tickets at exorbitant rates, the buses are running full and they have to wait for hours at the Jammu Bus Stand for buses to arrive from other states.
The administration not doing much to facilitate their travel has left them annoyed and fuming. Where is the government? Does any government exist in Jammu and Kashmir? The travelers are asking.
The washrooms in the newly constructed Jammu bus stand being in a pathetic condition and lack of facilities have put a question mark on the tall claims of the government about Jammu being a smart city.
The newly constructed Jammu bus stand in Jammu has been thrown open for people just a few months ago and people were expecting that it would be a marvel and would add to the glory of Jammu. But the facilities at the bus stand have disappointed one and all. On the other hand the government has failed to regulate the fares of the private buses as the operators are taking full advantage of the trains getting cancelled.
The devotees who have arrived in Jammu after paying obeisance at Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra have been caught in a tight spot and are terming their experience in Jammu as “bitter.”
The administration needs to wake up and make proper arrangements for the stranded passengers, who want to return to their native places. The helmsmen acting as mute spectators are creating a notion that there is no government in Jammu and Kashmir.
The authorities need to step in and ensure that at least washrooms in the general bus stand are clean and open 24x7 so that travelers, including women and children don’t suffer.
Some makeshift accommodations need to be thrown open for the travelers so that their wait for buses doesn’t become painful. If the government wants it can diffuse the crisis just within a few hours but for that the people at the top need to act and pass on strict instructions. The stranded travelers need help which is not coming. The guests of Jammu are not being treated properly. Their experiences in Jammu city have been bitter.
