Tribal Research Institute invites nominations for first edition of Tribal Awards

JAMMU, Jan 11: Recognizing the contributions made by the individuals, NGOs and institutions in the research and development of Tribals of J&K, Tribal Research Institute, J&K has invited nominations for the first edition of Tribal Awards instituted by the Government of Jammu & Kashmir.
Secretary Tribal Affairs Department, Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary who is also holding the charge of Director Tribal Research Institute J&K, while speaking on the occasion said that first edition of Tribal Awards is a remarkable step in recognizing the contributions made by individuals and institutions in tribal research and upliftment of the socio-economic status of tribals in UT of J&K.
Dr. Shahid further informed that UT Government under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor J&K Manoj Sinha has taken a series of steps for welfare of the tribal communities and recognising their contribution in this field is another milestone. He further informed that under the Best Tribal Achiever category 10 awards shall be conferred (05 Male and 05 Female) carrying a cash prize of Rs 50,000, a citation and a trophy for the outstanding work done in various fields like Sports, Education, Culture, literature, Science, Technology, Entrepreneurship and Bio diversity.
02 Awards have been earmarked for the individuals, PRIs, NGOs and Community based Organizations for the exemplary Community services rendered by them to the Scheduled tribes. Besides 02 Best performing Gram panchayat/BDC/DDC who have contributed significantly towards improving socio-economic condition of the scheduled tribes shall be awarded with a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh ,a citation and a trophy. The Concerned Panchayat would use the award money for creation of community assets, he added.
Dr. Shahid further informed that nominations for the awards in all 03 categories shall be submitted by the individuals, NGOs and institutions to District Level Screening Committee (DLSC) constituted under the Chairpersonship of Deputy Commissioner concerned and the DLSC shall submit the proposals to the UT Level Screening Committee who shall finalize the awards under each category and submit its recommendations to the Administrative department.
The nominations will be received from 11-01-2022 up to 19-01-2022 in the office of Concerned Deputy Commissioner who shall get the nominations evaluated through the DLSCs based on merit.
All the entries shall be screened at the district level and no individual nomination shall be accepted by the Tribal Research Institute J&K. The awards shall be announced by the Tribal Affairs department, J&K on the eve of Republic day 2022.
