KVK Reasi trains Self Help Groups

REASI, Jan 11: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Reasi under the aegis of Directorate of Extension, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) organized one day training programme for the members of Self Help Groups (SHGs) here today at Malad village of Pouni block in Reasi district of J&K which was enthuastically attended by the number of women members of various SHGs of the area.
The programme was organized under the dynamic stewardship of Vice Chancellor, Prof. JP Sharma and guidance of Director Extension Prof.SK Gupta of SKUAST-J. All the SOPs pertaining to COVID-19 pandemic were strictly followed while conducting the programme. The major objective of the training programme was to create better understanding of important features and functions of Self Help Groups (SHGs). Dr. Banarsi Lal, Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi initiated the programme with the warm welcome of participants. During the technical session he elaborated the concept of Self Help Group (SHG) and discussed on various income generation activities among the rural women. He said that SHGs formation has immense scope in hilly areas and can play a significant role in the eradication of poverty from the downtrodden areas. He discussed on regular saving, record keeping, regular meetings, regular inter-loaning, linkage with banks, repayment ethics etc.
Dr. Suja Nabi Qureshi, Scientist, guided the participants on aonla candy making, pickles making, jam making, juice making etc. He stressed on value addition in fruits, vegetables and spices to enhance the income and employment among the rural women. He also guided the trainees on the preservation of seasonal fruits and vegetables and elaborated the techniques of their value addition. During the programme quality packaging material was also provided to the SHGs members. The participants thanked KVK, Reasi scientists for organizing such a useful programme. The programme was assisted by Manohar Lal and concluded by Dr. Suja Nabi Qureshi with formal vote of thanks.
