Tony seeks restoration of water bodies, rise in PMAY quota
1/31/2022 11:20:27 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 31: Taranjit Singh Tony DDC Member Suchetgarh on Monday raised various issues of public interest including restoration of water bodies and increasing the quota under PMAY.
During the meeting called by the Commissioner Secretary Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Mandeep Kour, the DDC member said that restoring the water bodies in the Suchetgarh Constituency has a special relevance because this will improve the biodiversity which is utmost necessary in today's modern world where pollution has become a major cause for worry.
Another significant issue which was discussed threadbare was increase in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) quota. Tony said that the people living near border belt need the benefits of this scheme more than anybody else therefore the quota for the same should be raised considerably. Besides, Tony vociferously opposed the recent order by which government has given power to designated committees for building permissions. He said that this will mar justice and lead to nepotism. He demanded that the order in this regard should be rescinded as soon as possible and the power be again relegated to Director RDD for delivering justice and removing the scope of lopsidedness.
Tony also raised the issue of RDD contractors bidding lower rates which lead to delay in the project completion or even abandoning of the projects by the aforesaid thus forcing the people to suffer for longer times as development is delayed. He asked the Comm Secy to emulate PWD's tendering process to eliminate this problem once and for all as that department has switched over to e-tendering successfully shunning many of the hindrances and drawbacks.
The DDC Member also raised the issue of poor implementation of centrally sponsored schemes in the J&K as the PRIs are not involved. He demanded that for proper dissemination of information of the public welfare schemes, the PRIs should be involved actively so as to ensure that benefits of the aforesaid schemes percolates in each and every nook and corner of the UT.
Raising the issue of rampant corruption in the government departments, Tony sought immediate transfer of all Village Level Workers and engineers who have completed their respective tenures. He said that they should be immediately transferred to break the nexus between entities.
After giving a patient hearing to the issues and problems raised by the DDC Member, Commissioner Secretary assured that she will act on the issues highlighted after going through each and every aspect. On the charges of corruption, she assured that no one will be allowed to misuse his or her official position and assured strictest possible action against the delinquent.
