1/31/2022 11:49:15 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 31: Amid the peak of the third wave of deadly Coronavirus, higher-ups in Jammu and Kashmir administration appears to be so causal in streamlining the functioning of the health institutes across the Union Territory.
Instead of decentralizing power to ensure smooth functioning of the prestigious health institutions, authorities have over-burdened some senior doctors by giving them additional charge.
Those who have been working with dedication and commitment have been over-burdened. What to say of other institutes, even Principal Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, Dr. Shashi Sudan Sharma is also over-burdened because she is performing two important duties.
On the one hand, she is Principal of GMC Jammu-which caters needs of all the 10 districts of Jammu province, on the other hand, she is still performing her duty as head of the department of Head Department of Microbiology Department GMC Jammu. Since the outbreak of the deadly virus in J&K, Dr. Shashi Sudan Sharma is heading this important department which is responsible for conducting tests of infected persons. Earlier during her tenure as Principal Government Medical College Kathua, she was heading Microbiology Department GMC Jammu. During the deadly first wave of Coronavirus, Dr. Sharma shouldered the responsibility as Principal GMC Kathua as well as the Head Department of Microbiology GMC Jammu.
Dr. Shashi Sudan Sharma, who was acting as in-charge Principal Government Medical College, Jammu was appointed as permanent principal on December 17, 2021, with a retrospective effect from 01.04.2021. During three successive waves of the deadly virus, Dr. Shashi Sudan Sharma has proved her capability of handling any emergency situation. Although hospitalization is very less during the third wave of Coronavirus, testing has been increased manifold as the Omicron variant is very infectious and spreads with much speed. The load on the Microbiology department has increased in the present circumstances.
