Sikh organizations seek full relief package for PoK refugees
2/5/2022 11:01:51 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 5: An emergency meeting of various Sikh Organizations J&K held under the chairmanship of Mohinder Singh, Chief Organizer Bhai Kanaya Nishkam Sewa Society J&K and ex-member DGPC Jammu.
In the meeting, the members thread barely discussed the notice issued on January 24, 2022 by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction which mentioned the closure of scheme of central assistance for one time settlement of displaced families of Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Chhamb under Prime Minister's Development Package-2015. The participants expressed their anguish over the notice and said that the displaced families from PoK and Chhamb have been betrayed as the Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Jammu and Kashmir promised in a huge rally that displaced families of PoK will be provided Rs 30 lakh per family but now only Rs 5.5 lakhs has been given and 24.5 lakh are pending. The government is making mockery of the refugees.
The Sikh Organizations warned the government that if Rs 30 lakhs will not be provided for one time settlement of refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971 the refugees will start a decisive struggle. They blamed that if we compare policies of Government for settlement of Kashmiri migrants the Government is treating the displaced families of PoK step motherly. If the notice regarding the stoppage of rehabilitation scheme is not cancelled the refugees will vote in coming election against the BJP, it added. Moreover it is also appealed to government to extend the date for submitting files for rehabilitation.
Those who participated the meeting were Darbinder Singh President Shiromani Akali Dal J&K, Rajinder Singh General Secretary Shiromani Akali Dal J&K, Raja Singh Sarpanch member DGPC Jammu, Ravinder Singh Sarpanch & General Secretary Shiromani Akali Dal J&K, Kulwant Singh Khajuria Joint Secretary Shiromani Akali Dal J&K and several others.
