Bizarre lockdowns wreaking havoc on Jammu’s economy
Karnataka, Delhi lift curbs, JK admin playing proverbial ostrich
2/5/2022 11:53:06 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 5: In spite of the fact that the COVID- 19 graph is drastically coming down in Jammu, the government seems to be adamant in cracking a whip on the already struggling economy. It is not even taking cue from Karnataka that has opened up almost all major business activities.
As per the reports coming to the fore, the Karnataka government has eased COVID-19 restrictions and has allowed movie theatres, gyms and swimming pools to open at 100% occupancy from February 5. Reports inform that movie theatres, gyms, yoga centers, swimming pools, all of these were allowed to have 50% occupancy. Today (Friday), a meeting was convened by the Chief Minister with the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC). In January there was a hospitalisation rate of 5-6% but now it has been reduced to just 2%. In order to aid those involved in the film industry, we have decided that from Saturday, 100% occupancy will be allowed.
However, when it comes to Jammu, the administration here seems to have become a proverbial ostrich with its head worryingly stuck in the sand. The restrictions continue to remain in place in spite of the decrease in positivity rate.
It has once again proven beyond doubt that the administration here is taking harsh measures caring little about the consequences they bring along. “The government is of the bureaucrats, by the bureaucrats and for the bureaucrats in Jammu and Kashmir at present.
That is the reason that people’s wishes and their opinions have become the least concerning entity. The Babus are answerable to none and that is the reason that they least care of the consequences of their anti- people measures,” says a Jammu based Entrepreneur.
Even on social media, people are questioning the government’s anti- people measures being taken under the garb of COVID-19.
“Imagine the plight of a Jammu based businessman whose internet was snapped till 2020 and his business became crisis ridden. In 2020 the COVID wrecked havoc in him and now the government is leaving him perturbed on all fronts. On one side the joblessness in government as well as private sector is shrinking with each passing day and on the other hand, the businesses are choked by the unplanned lockdowns. It is ironic and cruel,” says a netizen.
People are highlighting how making lockdown and curbs on economic activities the only way out is incongruous and that the unorganized sectors are worst hit by such government decisions and that the need of the hour is to ensure that people’s livelihood is not affected any longer due to such frequently imposed curbs and lockdowns.
