GDC Kalakote celebrates Basant Panchami

KALAKOTE, Feb 5: NSS unit of Government Degree College (GDC) Kalakote, in collaboration with Literary Club of the college commemorated "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav" by organizing an online multi-cultural activities on the occasion of Basant Panchami with support and guidance of Dr Romesh Kr. Gupta, Principal of the college. This year 5th February is observed as the day of Basant Panchami and main aim to celebrate the festival is to mark the advent of spring season after biting cold of winter. It is celebrated on the fifth day of the bright half of the Hindu month of Magha. In addition, this day is dedicated to Goddess Saraswati who is deity of knowledge and get rid of lethargy struggling and ignorance.
Dr. Romesh Kr. Gupta, Principal of the college stressed upon the importance of the festival symbolizing the harbinger of spring. It is celebrated all over India with great pomp and show. Today on fifth day of Basant i.e. Spring season is celebrated as 'Saraswati Pujan'. Arrival of spring season brings the blooming of flower and maturing of crop welcoming the arrival of prosperity and happiness among everyone, on this day devotees worship the deity of wisdom and learning, Goddess Saraswati, Dr. Gupta wishes to all online that may Goddess Saraswati illuminate our lives with knowledge, creativity and prosperity.
In this competition, first place was bagged by Beenash Kouser- Sem-1st, Manvi Sharma of Sem 3rd earned second place, third place was bagged by Pankaj Singh of Sem 5th. The programme ended with vote of thanks given by Priyanka Kumari NSS PO. All teaching and non-teaching staff had also joined through online mode on this occasion.
