Rich tributes paid to Sheikh Nazir on his 7th death anniversary

JAMMU, Feb 24: Rich tributes were paid to former National Conference General Secretary Sheikh Nazir Ahmed on his 7th death anniversary with senior leaders leading the remembrances. Leading the party leaders and prominent workers in paying homage to the late leader at a function held at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan here this morning,, Provincial President Rattan Lal Gupta said that Sheikh Nazir will always inspire the National Conference cadre for his simplicity, honesty, selfless service, organizational capabilities and political acumen, adding that he stood by his cherished principles till last without opting any position of power.
Gupta said that Sheikh Nazir was one of the rare and front-ranking leaders across the country, who lived a very simple life and served the people most.
In his homage, former minister and senior leader Ajay Kumar Sadhotra said that Sheikh Nazir was a pillar of the organization, who remained connected with the cadre at grass roots level all his life.
Former minister and senior leader Ch Mohammed Ramzan described Sheikh Nazir as a pioneering leader who stood for high values in politics and public life.
Senior leader and former Speaker Mubarak Gul also paid tributes to the late leader and said Nazir Sahib shaped the destiny of the National Conference as a strong mass movement that strived for dignity and honour of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, irrespective of caste, creed or religion.
Former minister and senior leader Khalid Najeeb Suharwardhy said that service to the people remained the focal point of the life of Sheikh Nazir Sahib.
Remembering the late leader, Provincial President YNC Aijaz Jan said "Late Nazir sahib stood for his principles until his last breath. He was an honest and hard working leader who epitomized simplicity in his personal life."
Earlier, floral tributes were paid to Sheikh Nazir Ahmed and Qur'an Khani was also held for eternal peace to the departed soul.
Special Prayers and Quran Khani was organized by GH Malik at Sher-I-Kashmir Bhavan, Jammu.
Prominent among those present on this occasion included Bimla Luthra, Bushan Lal Bhat, Deepinder Kour, Master Noor Hussain, Surinder Singh Bunty, Satwant Kour Dogra, and others.
