| ‘Director Tourism Kashmir snatched our livelihood’ | | |

SRINAGAR, Feb 24: The pony owners and sledge owners of Gulmarg have lodged a strong protest against Director Tourism Kashmir, G N Itoo and said that they are not being allowed to operate their snowmobile and ATV vehicles at the world famous health resort in North Kashmir.
Sharing their views with Early Times, the pony owners and sledge owners President said that he has submitted a list of 80 people who have got their own snowmobile and ATV bikes and want to operate the same at Gulmarg. He said that while these people are not being allowed to operate, the influential are carrying out the operation of snowmobiles and ATV for years now.
“We all belong to Gulmarg and the government was duty bound to allow us all to operate the snowmobiles and ATV vehicles at the health resort. During 2012-14 there was a scheme under which the pony owners and sledge owners were to be provided with the snowmobiles and ATV vehicles,” said the President of the union.
The President of the union said that no such scheme was approved due to the 2014 flood, abrogation of Article 370 and COVID-19. He said the pony owners and sledge owners sold off their assets and managed to purchase the snowmobiles and ATV vehicles. He said despite this they were not allowed to operate the same at Gulmarg.
The President of the union said that they tried to contact the Director Tourism Kashmir adding that the concerned officer does not have time for them. He demanded intervention from LG Manoj Sinha in this regard and said that they should be allowed to operate the snowmobiles and ATV vehicles. |
