| National highway at Banihal in bad shape, locals rue official apathy | | |  S K KAW

Jammu, Feb 24:We have been highlighting the condition of roads in prominent cities and towns of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory which need immediate official attention and repairment as people at large were facing lots of inconvenience on every count.
Today in this issue we have chosen the national highway which is the only and important surface link of Jammu with Kashmir valley.
Though the near about 295 kms long Jammu-Srinagar national highway has different terrains (distance now could be less by some kilometers as mentioned above due to construction of several tunnels on it)and it passes through very tedious stretches at several places but some common stretches including Banihal area is in a bad shape and has been the worst victim of official neglect.
Nowgam-Banihal-Ramsoo road stretch is very important area of the Jammu-Srinagar national highway and witnesses huge rush of passenger and commercial vehicles every now and then.In inclement weather conditions this road remains closed for days together and this road stretch is prone to accidents too.This road needs properly to be macadamized so that bumpy rides,traffic quaos and other inconveniences and fatalities could be avoided.
Some senior citizens of the Banihal town while talking to Early Times rued the official neglect and apathy.They alleged that the condition of this road stretch speakes volumes of its dilapidation itself and nobody can even say that this road is also part of national highway. |
