Congress goes hi tech in Srinagar
9/23/2013 11:56:24 PM

Bashir Assad
Srinagar, Sept 23:Conscious of the increasing impact of digital and social media in shaping voter choices, specially of first-time voters, the Congress party is stressing on an online presence in the run-up to the 2014 general elections.
The Coordination Committee of highly trained technocrats constituted by the All India Congress Committee (AIC) Monday reached out to hundreds of educated youth owing their allegiance to the party in Srinagar and organized a day long work shop for them on social networking media campaign launched by the Vice President AICC, Rahul Ghandi a month ago.
This according to the coordinator Gaurav Pandey would be an effective tool to counter the "false propaganda" unleashed by BJP on Social Networking media like Facebook or Twitter, mobile applications, video content for Android and IOS, content for online applications and micro sites.
While inaugurating the workshop here, PCC president, Professor Saifudin Soz said: "The reason we wanted to launch social media networking campaign was that not just a high percentage of youth but large sections of society were using digital media and we needed to target them."
He said the Social Media networking would help congress supporters and cadres to display their capability and ideas on what people want from the Congress, their aspirations and views about the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) regime.
Soz said that the social media networking was an effective tool to fight fascist Narender Modi and his mentors in RSS who has unleashed a campaign of untruth against the UPA and Congress party. Envisaging a comprehensive campaign on social media Soz said truth is to be brought before the general masses.
"We need to launch a powerful secular democratic offensive on social media against the Modi tirade" Soz said. He said the BJP has become more dangerous now for its parochial and communal ideology.
Lauding AICC Vice President Rahul Ghandi, Soz said, "Rahul is inviting India to glorious and bright future while as Modi is inviting to fascism".
Soz said that the overwhelming response of the young people from Kashmir to the AICC call for use of social media campaign was encouraging.
Minister for Urban Development, Nawang Rigzin Jora regretted that Congress party which revolutionized India in telecommunication sector lags behind the right wing BJP in use of social media.
Congress spokesperson and MLC, Ravinder Sharma, MLC Ghulam Nabi Monga and many youth congress leaders, Shoab Nabi Lone, Hilal Ahmad Shah also participated in the workshop.
