Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Sept 23: Cautioning the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah against rising levels of corruption, nepotism and favouritism in the state and corresponding rise in the dissatisfaction amongst the masses that could spell doom for the coalition partners in the next assembly elections, former Minister and Member AICC Abdul Gani Vakil has urged SOS political and administrative measures.
Seeking immediate effective steps to check corruption, Vakil asserted that the menace has eroded our system and common masses are not getting justice due to corruption, nepotism and favoritism in administration.
He urged the Chief Minister to look into the financial mess in various departments which is hampering the development of our State. The former Minister said that due to red tapism in the administration image of the coalition government is getting eroded among common masses. He said that Congress was against corruption and it was towards this end that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had assured a strong Lokpal. The State Government must also follow the same pattern and constitute and independent commission and get the cases of financial mismanagement in various departments investigated to win over confidence of masses. Vakil was addressing party workers convention at Tulsi Bagh Srinagar on Monday.
While addressing the gathering Vakil expressed concern and said that whose cases were pending in SAC have got stays from the high court by which "Investigating institutions like State Accountability Commission have become defunct. Vakil said that "It would be better if the Government would constitute an independent commission to probe into the corruption charges of politicians and bureaucrats he assured Chief Minister full support of the congress in eradicating this menace and said that if the government succeeds in uprooting this menace it will be the biggest achievement of the present government.
Vakil lambasted opposition for not playing a constructive role by not helping the government to eradicate corruption and said that power hungry opposition was not taking up developmental issues but trying to exploit common masses by raising sentimental issues. The opposition he said was not deliberately playing its role to keep the government in dark but he added that congress will raise its voice against any type of irregularities in order to set the system right.
