JAMMU, Mar 20: Contrary to the facilities given to the people of Ladakh and other snow bound areas of Kashmir, people of Marwah, Dachhan and Warwan areas of Kishtwar district feel neglected. Today they Slammed the Government for their failure in airlifting the stranded passengers trapped at Kishtwar due to heavy snowfall during last week.
While talking to Early Times, several stranded passengers said that despite depositing the ticket amount fixed by the administration, the State Government failed to airlift them. They said that many people are without money and are presently taking shelter with few students or in hotels. They said that local administration since last few days has been intimating them to assemble at Kishtwar airport so that the Army chopper could airlift them, but added that no chopper has turned up till date.
They said that after waiting for several hours, they tried to approach the local administration and to their surprise, no senior official was available at the district headquarters to listen to their grievances.
The aggrieved said that at DC office Kishtwar, they were informed that all the senior officials of the administration were busy with election arrangements. Later, all the stranded passengers dispersed peacefully with the hope that Government will arrange a chopper for airlifting them. Before leaving the premises of DC office Kishtwar, these stranded passengers including women and children will turn up tomorrow for perusing their case strongly.
It is pertinent to mention here that Marwah and Warwan areas of Kishtwar District having population of over 50000 received 8 to 10 feet snowfall in last one week as a result of which several people hailing from these areas got trapped at Kishtwar. The area also lacks road connectivity. There is also no electricity and remains cut off from rest of the state for 6-8 months. 30 KM bridle path connecting Marwah with Kishtwar District also got snapped due to heavy snowfall and will be restored only after melting of snow in the month of May 2014.
