Reorganization, not autonomy, a practical solution | Politics of communalism | | Neha Jammu, Apr 26: NC president and outgoing Union Minister Farooq Abdullah on Friday had again sung the same old monotonous, irritating, communal and pro-separatist song and said that autonomy as a practical and viable solution to Kashmir issue. "We passed the autonomy resolution in the state Assembly in 2000 and forwarded it to the NDA Government in New Delhi. The same people, who are conspiring to abrogate the Article 370 now, sabotaged the resolution and ensured that it is not adopted…The NC has been talking about its demand for the restoration of autonomy, a pre-1953 arrangement, with the Union of India when the state had its own Prime Minister and Constitution, during the past several elections. It (autonomy) would usher the state into an era of greater and sustainable peace," Farooq said while addressing an election rally in the Budgam area (Kashmir). The NC will keep demanding the "restoration of complete autonomy and the restoration of the pre-1953 status till this goal is achieved," he also said. What does the autonomy concept as being advocated by the NC mean" what is the meaning of pre-1953 position? Both mean the same thing: Withdrawal of all the central laws and institutions from the state which were extended to it after August 9, 1953, when the Government of India got Sheikh Abdullah dethroned and arrested on the charge of sedition; reestablishment of a local oligarchy where the ruling elite shall exercise absolute legislative, executive and financial powers, the common people will have no right whatsoever and the Press will have no freedom. It would also mean a step short of independence from India and the rise of a situation under which the people of Jammu province and Ladakh region would be no more than slaves and the minorities would get crushed like the minorities in Pakistan got crushed. To be more precise, Farooq Abdullah advocated the two-nation concept and suggested that the people of Jammu province and Ladakh region have no other option but to throw in their lot with the Kashmiri communalists and separatists. Neither New Delhi nor the people of Jammu and Ladakh will ever endorse the seditious formulation as advocated by Farooq Abdullah and others of his ilk. The nation and the people of these two regions - apart from other religious and ethnic minorities, including the internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus, original inhabitants of Kashmir, are for the state's for integration with India and the application of the Indian Constitution in full, minus the atrocious anti-people and anti-democratic Article 370. Farooq Abdullah and his ilk must not ignore what the nation thinks about Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. As for Kashmir, it is an integral part of India and shall ever remain so come what may. There is no question of another communal partition of India. Of course, there are problems in the state and these needed to be surmounted at the earliest. The main problems are two - communalism in Kashmir and unrest in Jammu and Ladakh. We have to eradicate communalism in Kashmir and end unrest in Jammu and Ladakh. We can eradicate communalism in Kashmir by repealing the Jammu and Kashmir Constitution and bringing the state at par with other states of the Union. And we have to reorganize the state's polity on a regional basis so that the people of each region become master of their own destiny within India and under the Indian Constitution. |
